Benefits of Using the Foam Roller

A form of self-massage, foam rolling for 5-10 minutes will accomplish the following:

  • Breaks up fibrous tissue/adhesions
  • Improves blood flow
  • Reduces muscle soreness
  • Reduces muscle tension

Try to use the foam roller 3-4 times a week.

Where Should You be in Your Challenge Atlantic City Training? Race is the end of June.

With both AC 140.6 and IM LP in the early parts of the east coast race season its good to set volume goals for each sport.

Here is a guide post to use for the end of May.

Swim: For Challenge Atlantic City a 90 min swim is complete

Bike: For AC the 1st 100 mile ride is complete

Run: For AC A 2hr and 30 min run is complete

“Run the Runway 5k” Update

After meeting with the Brandywine Airport the plan has changed to use the Helicopter Museum. There are many possible hazards with using the runway. To mention one….the possibility of children running onto the runway and the risk of injury.

Is It Time for a Sweat Test?

This test is different from the tests that you read about in books and magazines that only measure fluid loss and estimate electrolyte loss. This test measures electrolyte loss directly by using a “Sweat Patch” that is taped to the skin and placed in a test tube for laboratory analysis. The results vary significantly. There can be 2 athletes with identical fluid loss but one can lose 5,000mgs of sodium and the other just 500mgs.
